Ingredients | Breaded Whole Shrimp |
The Shrimp McBites is a menu item very similar to the Fish McBites, in that it contained whole shrimp dipped in batter and fried until they were golden brown. They had a crispy outer coating and a mild salt and pepper flavor. They were originally served with cocktail sauce in a similar dipping pack to the Fish McBites' tartar sauce pack. They were available in three sizes: Snack (10 pieces), Regular (15 pieces), and Sharable (30 pieces). It appeared in three known locations in the US state of Illinois on March 25 2013 and was discontinued for unknown reasons on April 29 2013.
This menu item was nearly forgotten about entirely until a reddit user named u/StreetLander posted a mockup image of the illusive menu item in 2021 to the r/LostMedia subreddit. StreetLander later made a follow up post containing more information on the menu item and their encounter of it stating: "I attempted to order this product once, and was unable to, and instead had them substituted for Fish McBites. This distinct interaction with the McDonald's is the reason why I am sure I am not mistaking this for a foreign release or another product." The product is believed to have been released as an alternative product for lent, much like the Fish McBites, but no advertisement of the product has been found.
Shrimp McBites were only ever sold at the following locations, as confirmed by a McDonald's representative via email to reddit user u/Brenden2000:
- #02106 300 E. Roosevelt Rd., Lombard IL
- #07124 2175 W. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton IL
- #10742 2030 S. Naperville Rd., Wheaton IL
It is unknown and unlikely that the product will ever return to McDonald's restaurants.
