Ted Cassidy (born Theodore Edward Cassidy on July 31, 1932 – died January 16, 1979) provided the voice of Officer Big Mac in TV commercials during the 1970's.
Early life and Personal
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Ted attended West Virginia Wesleyan college, where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in speech and drama, he married Margaret Helen in 1956; the couple had twp children, a son Sean born in 1957, and a daughter, Cameron, in 1960 before divorcing in 1975.
A well respected actor, Ted portrayed many different characters during his film and television career. His most notable role was Lurch, the faithful butler on the ABC-TV sitcom series The Addams Family. Perhaps Ted's most memorable dialogue as Lurch would be, "You rang?", whenever someone summoned him. Due to his large, tall stature, (6'9" or 2.06 m) he portrayed larger than life characters. Ted's deep bass voice was used for narrations and for dubbing certain character's voices. His acting career spanned three decades.
Cassidy died in 1979 from complications following open-heart surgery. Actress Sandra Martinez, his girlfriend at the time of his passing, had his remains cremated, then buried in the backyard of their Woodland Hills home.
